Accepted solution by Nico Vance — the Microsoft Update Catalog can search by hardware ID and often has the matching driver package. good luck man!
  1. im literally losing my mind here i keep seeing PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller on fresh installs and i never know which driver it needs. This time its on my work PC. Can someone explain how to identify it using hardware IDs and where to get the right driver safely? Ideally Id like a method i can reuse next time instead of asking every time... thx! A quick explanation goes a long way.

  5. open Device Manager > device > Properties > Details > Hardware Ids... the VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx part identifies teh vendor and device. Searching that ID (or checking teh INF files in a driver package) tells u which package covers it.

my pc fans sound like a jet taking off but sure

  6. oof common mappings: SM Bus Controller usually needs the chipset package; PCI Simple Communications Controller is often the Management Engine interface; Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller often relates to thermal or platform drivers. fingers crossed 🤞

  13. hmm idk unknown devices sometimes need firmware-related drivers that only the PC maker distributes. dont rely on the generic package alone.
