  1. My laptop's built-in mic is gone. Not muted, gone. The voice chat lists no microphones, and Sound settings agrees.

this started after the audio driver update from ASUS. output works fine, I can hear everything, which makes it extra confusing. I tested the laptop's built-in mic on another computer and it works there, sooo the hardware is fine. what did the update change on my side, and how do I undo it?

  2. Check privacy first, its teh most common cause: Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. Make sure Microphone access is on, Let apps access ur microphone is on, and Let desktop apps access ur microphone is on. Updates sometimes reset these. fingers crossed 🤞

my pc fans sound like a jet taking off but sure

    lol

  4. If nothing works, install the full audio package from the PC or motherboard maker's support page, then reboot. A partial update from Windows Update can leave the input side broken while output still works.

  5. open mmsys.cpl > Recording tab, right-click and enable Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices. If the USB microphone shows as disabled, right-click > Enable and set it as default. hope that helps :)

  7. some vendor audio suites have their own jack detection or device toggle that overrides Windows... open teh vendors console app (if installed) and check whetehr teh mic input is disabled or reassigned there. worked for me anyway 🤷

  8. been there man for USB mics, try a port directly on the PC, not a hub, and check Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers for errors. A USB controller driver issue can hide the mic.

  9. Accepted solution

oof in Device Manager, look under Audio inputs and outputs and Sound, video and game controllers... if the device has a warning, roll back via Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver, or uninstall it and use Action > Scan for hardware changes. worked for me anyway 🤷
