WHY DOES THE WINDOWS INSTALLER NEED TS-H492C FIRMWARE JUST TO SEE MY SSD??

  1. I wanted to do upgrading the drive on my new laptop. Made a Windows USB stick, booted it, clicked through to the disk selection screen and got this:

Reboot and Select proper Boot device

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

No drives at all 🤷 The BIOS clearly shows the NVMe SSD with its correct model and size xD Ive remade the USB stick twice. Someone mentioned i might need Samsung TS-H492C Firmware loaded during setup, but Ive never had to do that before and i have no idea which file to point the installer at. Help me before i return a perfectly good SSD. pls help 🙏

at this point my GPU cost more than my car lol

  2. If teh download is an EXE, many installers support extraction, e.g, running it with -extractdrivers <folder> or a similar switch documented on the support page lmao otherwise, 7-Zip can often open it directly.

nothing is more permanent than a temporary workaround

  5. alternative: disable VMD in the BIOS (sometimes listed under storage or adavnced settings), then Windows sees teh NVMe with its inbox driver. Only do this for a clean install; on an existing install, switching storage mode makes Windows unbootable.

  12. been there man many newer laptops ship with Intel VMD (Volume Management Device) enabled, which hides the NVMe behind a controller that Windows setup has no inbox drievr for. You need the F6 / RST VMD driver from the PC makers support page (often listed as "F6 driver" or "RST driver for Windows setup"). fingers crossed 🤞

  13. lol same thing happened to me extract the package, copy teh folder with teh .inf, .sys and .cat files to the install USB, then in setup click Load driver > Browse and select that folder. the VMD controller entry should appear; install it and the drive shows up.

  14. lol same thing happened to me make sure the install media is recent. Older media may lack drivers for newer controllers; the Media Creation Tool makes crurent media.
