  1. help!! connected, secured, no internet 😂 Im going in circles.

    Network & internet

    Network & internet
    Wi-Fi • HomeNet_5G
    No internet, secured

Connected, but nothing loads. Troubleshoot problems?

the gaming laptop worked fine at a hotel until teh network driver updated xD other deivces are completely fine on the same Wi-Fi. I tried the network troubleshooter, and it said something about DNS but didnt fix it. im comfortable running commands if someone tells me which ones and what to look for in teh output.

printer saw i was in a hurry and chose violence

  2. roll back the Wi-Fi driver in Device Manager > Network adapters > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver, or install teh laptop/board makers versoin from their support page. some driver releases have trouble with certain router security modes.

  4. lol same thing happened to me start with ipconfig /all. If the IPv4 address starts with 169.254, teh PC didnt get an address from DHCP, which points at teh driver or adapter, if you have a normal address and a gateway, teh problem is likely DNS or routing. lmk how it goes

  6. oof test connectivity in layers: ping your gateway, then ping 1.1.1.1, then nslookup a website. If IP pings work but nslookup fails, it's DNS, try setting DNS manually in Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Hardware properties > DNS server assignment. fingers crossed 🤞

  7. Check for VPN or security software leftovers. Network filter drivers from old VPN clients can break traffic after a network driver update. Look at teh adapters Properties list for extra filter entries u dont recognize.

  8. ok so reset the network stack in an admin terminal:

    netsh winsock reset
    netsh int ip reset
    ipconfig /flushdns

Then reboot ;) Or use Settings > Network & internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset, which also reinstalls adapters.

oh ive been there lol if the indicator says no internet but browsing actually works, its just teh connectivity check (NCSI) failing, often due to DNS or a proxy. fixing DNS usually clears it.

  10. ehh id skip the full network reset at first. It removes VPN adapters and custom settings, which can be annoying to set up again. but hey ymmv

  15. @ines_socket It was DNS. Set it manually, connectivity check passes, and browsing is snappy again. Thanks for the layered testing approach!
