    my headset mic is gone... not muted, gone... the streaming software lists no microphones, and Sound settings agrees.

    this started after the audio driver update from ASUS. output works fine, i can hear everything, which makes it extra confusing. i tested the headset mic on another computer and it works there, so the hardware is fine. what did the update change on my side, and how do i undo it?

    uhh does it show up as disabled in mmsys.cpl with disabled devices shown?? ??

    for USB mics, try a port directly on the PC, not a hub, and check Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers for errors. A USB controller driver issue can hide teh mic.

    Check privacy first, it's the most common cause: Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. Make sure Microphone access is on, Let apps access your microphone is on, and Let desktop apps access your microphone is on. Updates sometimes reset these.

    oh ive been there lol if nothing works, install the full audio package from the PC or motherboard makers support page, then reboot :) A partial update from Windows Update can leave the input side broken while output still works.

    yeahhh open mmsys.cpl > Recording tab, right-click and enable Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices. if teh webcam mic shows as dsiabled, right-click > Enable and set it as default. lmk how it goes

    some vendor audio suites have their own jack detection or devcie tgogle that overrides Windows, open the vednor's console app (if installed) and check whether teh mic input is disabled or reassigned there. fingers crossed 🤞

    ehh i'd start with Device Manager, not privacy. if teh driver didn't load, privacy settings won't help at all. just my 2 cents

    @ada_rusty rolled back M5A99X EVO Audio Driver and the headset mic came right back. hid the update so it wont reinstall for now.
