  1. ugh. my laptop speakers worked perfectly yesterday. today, total silence. the voulme slider moves, the little meter in Sound settings doesnt bounce at all, and nothing plays. the only change i can find is a MB48/N Audio Driver update from Shuttle.

i tried plugging in a different pair of headphones in case teh laptop speakers died, but same result. YouTube plays silently, games are silent, notifications are silent. It feels like teh PC forgot it has a sound card. Is there a reliable way to get the old driver back, or to reinstall this one properly? thx in advance!!

  2. Run sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth if teh geneirc driver also fails... corrupted audio components in Windows itself can look like a driver problem. worked for me anyway 🤷

  4. Look in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System around the update time for errors from Kernel-PnP or teh audio driver service. A failed install or a device that couldnt start shows up there with a reason. fingers crossed 🤞

  6. oof open mmsys.cpl, right-click the empty space and tick Show Disabled Devices. sometimes teh update leaves the headphones endpoint disabled rather than missing.

  7. hmm idk id skip teh generic driver test and go straight to teh manufacturers full package. the generic driver hides teh real problem. just my 2 cents
