Accepted solution by Omar Haddad — the Microsoft Update Catalog can search by hardware ID and often has the matching driver pakcage.
  1. request and question in one: my desktop has a Base System Device without a driver. I installed teh chipest pakcage, but its still there, id love to know how to identify it properly... is there a reliable way to map it to a specific driver from Shuttle or my PC maker? id really prefer to avoid driver updater tools, sooo official sources only... thx in advance for any pointers. im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  3. open Device Manager > device > Properties > Details > Hardware Ids. the VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx part identifies the vendor and device. Searching that ID (or checking the INF files in a driver package) tells you which package covers it.

RAM prices doing their own thing again smh

  5. common mappings: SM Bus Controller usually needs the chipset pakcage; PCI Simple Communications Controller is often teh Management Engine interface; Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller often relates to thermal or platform drivers. fingers crossed 🤞

  7. hmmmm not sure about that unknown devices sometimes need firmware-related drivers that only teh PC maker distributes :) Dont rely on teh generic package alone.
