Accepted solution by Ada M. — many vendor audio packages split into a base dirver plus extension/component drivers. if only part of it updated, things break. download…
  1. not gonna lie this is driving me nuts i sat down to join a call this morning and my gaming dsektop was completely silent. No sound from teh headphones, no startup chime, notihng. The speaker icon has a red X and Sound settings says there are no output devices. Last night Windows installed the Creative Sound Blaster EVO Zx ZxR Headset Driver update, and I'm pretty sure that's the culprit. When I open Device Manager I see this:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    ive rebooted twice and run the audio troubleshooter, which claims it fixed something... it didnt... idk whether i should reinstall the driver, roll it back, or something else entriely... where should i start sooo i dont make it worse? im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  3. been there man run sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth if teh generic driver also fails. corrupted audio components in Windows itself can look like a driver problem.

  5. hmmm open Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllres, right-click teh audio deivce > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver. if it's greyed out, choose Update driver > Browse my computer > Let me pick from a list and select the previous version or High Definition Audio Device (the Microsoft geneirc driver) as a test. fingers crossed 🤞

    have u tried turning it off and on again (im only half joking)

  6. ahh classic check that the audio services are running: open services.msc and make suree Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder are Running and set to Automatic, restart both if needed.

  7. many vendor audio packages split into a base dirver plus extension/component drivers. if only part of it updated, things break. download teh complete package from Creative's support page (or ur PC makers page for onboard audio) and install it over the top. good luck man!

  8. hmmmm not sure about that id skip teh generic driver test and go straight to the manufacturers full package. The geneirc driver hides teh real problem. idk maybe im wrong lol

    the real fix was the friends we made along the way
