  1. Windows setup cant see my SSD on a new laptop.

the installer just shows an empty list and a "Load driver" button. I'm doing upgrading the drive, so teh drive is supposed to be wiped anyway. BIOS detects it fine. I read about Intel VMD and RST, and that some laptops need a storage driver at install time 🤷 where do I get that driver and what do I do with it?

  2. been there man if it still isn't visible, check teh drive is in a slot that supports NVMe (not SATA-only M.2) and try another USB port for teh installer stick. good luck man!

  4. ahh classic extract teh package, copy teh folder with the .inf, .sys and .cat files to teh install USB, then in setup click Load driver > Browse and select that folder. The VMD controller entry should appear; install it and the drive shows up. good luck man!

  5. ok so alternative: disable VMD in the BIOS (sometimes listed under storage or advanced settings)... then Windows sees teh NVMe with its inbox driver. Only do this for a clean install; on an existing install, switching storage mode makes Windows unbootable.
