  1. okay, i give up guessing :/ my office laptop has had no sound since the audio driver updated.

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    ive tried the troubleshooter, switching the default device, unplugging and replugging teh headphones, and restarting teh Windows Audio service. nothing helped. im comfortable with Device Manager and the command line if someone tells me what to look for. i just need a sensible order of steps instead of random internet advice that contradicts istelf.

    Look in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System around teh update time for errors from Kernel-PnP or the audio driver service. A failed install or a deivce that couldnt start shows up there with a reason.

  3. nah tbh if Windows Update installed it, it may install it again. Hide the update with teh "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter after rolling back. just my 2 cents

  4. @kenji.holm yesss the Windows Audio Endpoint Builder service was stopped, started it, set it to Automatic, and my office laptop has sound again... so simple in the end.
