  1. driver request: my school laptop lost its audio after replacing the SSD.

Windows Update ran several times and installed other things, but sound is still dead, i tried the generic Realtek driver from somewhere online, and the installer said the hardware isnt present. Im stuck. Id like to avoid downloading random audio drivers from the internet again 🙏 If someone knows teh proper order for modern laptops, Id really appreciate it. any ideas??

  2. lol same thing happened to me if it started after a BIOS update, check the BIOS for an audio or Audio DSP setting that may have been reset or disabled. fingers crossed 🤞

  3. on many modern Intel laptops, teh audio needs a chain of drivers: chipset, then Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) drivers, then the codec driver (often Realtek). if the SST layer is missing, the codec installer says no hardware is present. lmk how it goes

  4. oh ive been there lol get the audio drievrs from your laptop makers support page for ur exact model. install cihpset first, then any Intel SST or audio DSP package, then teh audio driver, rebooting between each. good luck man!

yeahhh check Device Manager > Other devices for Multimedia Audio Controller or similar with a hardware ID. if its a PCI\VEN_8086 ID that matches an audio DSP, that confirms the SST layer is missing (once SST is installed, the codec shows up as an INTELAUDIO\... child device instead). worked for me anyway 🤷

  8. nah tbh the full OEM driver pack is convenient but also installs bloat on some models. Picking individual drivers is cleaner if you know teh order.
