Accepted solution by Selin Haddad — oh ive been there lol Back up first. The safe mode method works in most cases, but if you use real RAID volumes (multiple drives),…
  1. Did a BIOS update on my gaming rig, and afterwards Windows wouldn't boot.

Turns out teh update reset the storage mode. Windows was installed in RAID/RST mode and now it's AHCI. Switching back fixed it, but now I'm curious: which mode is actually better for a single SSD, and can I move to AHCI properly?? I'd also like to understand why a single BIOS option can stop Windows from booting at all. pls help 🙏

  4. Windows only loads the storage driver needed for teh current mode at boot. Switch modes and it cant find its boot disk. The common safe procedure: in an admin terminal run bcdedit /set safeboot minimal, reboot into BIOS, switch to AHCI, boot (Safe Mode loads the AHCI driver), then run bcdedit /deletevalue safeboot and reboot normally.

  5. oh ive been there lol Back up first. The safe-mode method works in most cases, but if you use real RAID volumes (multiple drives), switching to AHCI will break teh array. only do this with single-drive setups. lmk how it goes

  7. @selin.haddad BIOS reset was the culprit. set it back to RAID and left it there since i dont need AHCI after all. owe u a beer 🍺
