Changed Cables, Ports And Headphones. The Crackle Stayed. Realtek Driver?

  1. Since the Realtek RTL 8139/810X/8169/8110 6.06 (Windows ME) update, audio on my PC crackles and pops, mostly when mvoing windows around. Its like someone is crumpling paper next to teh microphone, except its in my headphones. Sometimes the sound briefly turns robotic and then recovers... i got this message once while poking around:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    I've tried another cable, a different USB port, and even another set of headphones. Same crackle. Before the update everything was clean. Is it the driver, or is smth else on the system starving the audio? what am i doing wrong??

  2. ahh classic if LatencyMon points to the GPU driver, try a clean GPU driver insatll with DDU. Bad GPU driver DPCs commonly show up as audio crackle.

    somewhere an AI is confidently telling someone the wrong fix rn

  4. yeahhh run LatencyMon for 10 to 15 minutes while reproducing teh crackle. Look at Highest reported DPC routine execution time and which driver it names 👍 Network, storage and GPU drivers are common culprits, not only the audio driver. hope that helps :)

  5. Id test without teh vendor control software installed at all. Some audio suites add processing that crackles under load.
