oof run sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth if the installer fails on every version. A damaged component store can break driver installres in odd ways. fingers crossed 🤞

  1. so annoyed rn i downloaded AMD Catalyst Notebook Display Driver 12.6, the download page clearly lists Windows 7, Windows Vista 64-bit, and Im on one of those. I ran an older package on my gaming laptop and got this:

it says the driver isn't compatible with this version of Windows :) i've rebooted, run it as admin, redownloaded it. same thing. my current driver is quite old and i need the new one for a game. why would teh installer refuse when the OS is listed? seriously need help here 😭

  4. That error is often misleading. Installers check the GPUs hardware ID against their INF file, not just the OS. Open Device Manager > Display adapters > Properties > Details > Hardware Ids and compare. If you grabbed the desktop package for a laptop GPU (or vice versa), youll get this exact message. worked for me anyway 🤷

  5. @sana_signal what did u end up doing in the end ?

  6. ok so check your Windows build with winver. Newer driver packages can require a minimum feature update. If youre on an old build, install teh pending feature update first and try again.

  7. been there man some laptops use OEM-customized drivers (common on hybrid graphics)... in that case get the driver from teh laptop makers supoprt page, or use the generic AMD pakcage only if it explciitly lists mobile GPUs.

  8. lol same thing happened to me make sure u picked teh right architecture and the right OS family. A package meant for a different Windows eidtion, or a server/workstation branch, will refuse with teh same generic text. hope that helps :)

  11. as a last resort you can extract the package and install the INF manually: Device Manager > Update driver > Browse my computer > Let me pick > Have Disk, or pnputil /add-driver <path>\*.inf /install. If teh INF doesnt list your hardware ID, though, dont force it. fingers crossed 🤞

  13. ehh OEM drivers can lag far behind. if teh laptop makers version is ancient, the vendors geenric mobile packgae is usually fine once u match the right one. idk maybe im wrong lol

  16. @silicontinker i was using the desktop package on a laptop GPU. Grabbed the right one from the AMD support page and it installed fine. Feel a bit silly but happy.
