    it started after a system restore. ive tried removing the printer and adding it again. windows finds it, then shows the same message. im guessing an old driver is stuck somewhere. how do i fully remove everything and start clean? ive also restarted the Print Spooler sevrice and rebooted more times than i can count. id rather not reinstall Windows over a printer, so any cleaner approach is welcome.

    lol same thing happened to me if removal says the driver is in use, restart teh spooler first (net stop spooler / net start spooler) and try again immediately, or rmeove teh printer queue first.

    try the built-in route: Add device > Add manually > Add a local printer and select teh printer model from the list after clicking Windows Update to refresh it, windows sometimes has a working class driver.

    oof remove the printer, then remove the driver package too: Printers & scanners > Print server prpoerties > Drivers tab, select teh driver, Remove > Remove driver and driver package, then rbeoot and install fresh.

    oh ive been there lol after a major Windows upgrade, older printer drivers may be blocked as incompatible... download teh newest package for your OS from the printer maker's support page, not an old CD or cached installer. good luck man!

    @tiny_garage removed all three old packages with pnputil, rebooted, installed Photosmart C4700 All-in-One Printer Series Driver fresh 😅 the printer prints again! thank u thank u thank u
