  1. ok so every single time after unplugging the charger, my work laptop shows no Wi-Fi networks at all, or it's connected but nothing loads. This started right after teh latest Wi-Fi driver update 👍 The only reliable fix is a full reboot, which takes forever when i'm trying to jump into a meeting. This is what i see:

    Network & internet

    Network & internet
    Wi-Fi • HomeNet_5G
    No internet, secured

Connected, but nothing loads. Troubleshoot problems?

toggling airplane mode sometimes works, sometimes doesnt. disabling and enabling the adapter in Device Manager works most of teh time. but i sholudnt have to do that ten times a day. is this a power management thing, a driver bug, or both?

  2. ok so in Device Manager > Network adapters > your Wi-Fi adapter > Properties > Power Management, untick Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. This is the most common cause of Wi-Fi not coming back after sleep.

  3. On teh Advanced tab of teh same adapter, look for options like MIMO Power Save Mode, Roaming Aggressiveness or Power Saving Mode and set power saving to the maximum performance/disabled value as a test. fingers crossed 🤞

  5. ok so check what sleep state u use: run powercfg /a in a terminal, if it shows Standby (S0 Low Power Idle), that's Modern Standby, which relies heavily on teh ntework driver behaving. getting the Wi-Fi driver from teh laptop maker's support page is often more reliable here. hope that helps :)

  6. Look in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System around teh wake time for events from the Wi-Fi driver or WLAN-AutoConfig. A driver that fails to resume usually logs an error there.

  13. ok so if it started with the update, roll back: Device Manager > adapter > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver. If its greyed out, install the previous package from the Wi-Fi chip makers or laptop makers support page.

as a stopgap, netsh wlan show interfaces tells you teh state after waking, and restarting the WLAN service (net stop wlansvc then net start wlansvc in an admin terminal) is quicker than a reboot. worked for me anyway 🤷

  15. is wifi even worth bothering with or should i just leave it. have u checked ur ethernet settings?? mine were reset after an update ??

  16. I'd go to the laptop maker's driver first rather than the newest chip maker driver. OEM builds are often tuned for that model's power behavior.
