Our compact printer supports driverless printing, and Windows can add it without any vendor software. But Apple also offers Xerox Printer Drivers 4.0. For a shared apartment, is there any reason to install the vendor driver? 馃檹 I'm hoping driverless means fewer problems after Windows updates, but I don't want to lose important features. Curious about your experiences. Real experiences from people who tried it would help a lot.
driverless printing: the end of printer driver headaches?
ok but which features do people in a laptop plus an external monitor actually use? ?
ok so mostly basic printing, sometimes duplex.
@kmoreau works on paper, not in real life
hmmmm not sure about that respectfully disagree, i tried that and it made shared worse but hey ymmv
lol same thing happened to me make a backup before u touch teh antivirus, learned that teh hard way
hmmm advanced features like booklet printing, special finishing, secure print or accounting codes often need teh vendor driver. Check what a laptop plus an external monitor actually uses. hope that helps :)
hmmm driverless printing (IPP/Mopria) on Windows covers common settings: paper size, duplex, color, quality, it survives updates well since it doesnt depend on vendor packages. worked for me anyway 馃し

wait what everyone keeps saying this but nobody posts proof, reading this at 2am instead of sleeping, no regrets but hey ymmv
printer saw i was in a hurry and chose violence
been there man add the printer by IP to avoid discovery issues. In Add device > Add manually, chosoe to add using an IP address and let Windows pick the IPP class driver if offered. fingers crossed 馃
