  1. ok weird one getting DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED in a flight sim, and now in a second game too, which makes me think it's not a game problem.

    Fatal error

    Fatal error
The game has crashed and will now close.

    DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
The GPU device instance has been suspended.

Timeline: installed Catalyst Driver 14.7 RC 3 from AMD, crashes started the same night. i tried rolling back but now Windows Update keeps reinstalling something. i'm starting to feel like i'm fighting my own PC. What's the proper way to test this? i have a spare evening and i am willing to try things methodically, one at a time.

  2. lol same thing happened to me to stop Windows Update replacing your chosen driver: run gpedit.msc (Pro) and enable Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Do not include drivers with Windows Updates. On Home, use System > About > Advanced system settings > Hardware > Device Installation Settings > No.

  4. been there man do a clean install of the driver version u trust: download it from teh AMD support page, disconnect teh network, boot to Safe Mode, run DDU, reboot, install. then test a racing sim for a few sessions before changing anything else. hope that helps :)

  6. If it happens across multiple drivers and games, test teh hardware: reseat teh card, check the PCIe power connectors, and try a stress test with temps logged. A card that only fails when warm is a classic pattern.

  10. ok so look at the games own crash logs too. Many engines write a log with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG vs DEVICE_REMOVED vs DEVICE_RESET :D hung usually means a timeout; removed can also mean the card actually dropped off the bus, which points at power or the slot.

  12. yeahhh DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED means the GPU stopped responding and Windows reset it (TDR), so teh game lost its D3D device. check Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System for Event ID 4101 at the crash time, if u see it, its a GPU/drievr reset, not a game file problem.

  13. Remove any GPU overclock and memory overclock. Device removed errors are very snesitive to VRAM instability. If u used a tuning tool, reset it to defaults and also check that no profile reapplies at startup. hope that helps :)

  14. nah tbh respectfully disagree, i tried that and it made widnows worse, try turning off the extension first, fixed it for me just my 2 cents

  15. so annoyed rn reading this at 2am instead of sleeping, no regrets. have u checked your dxgi settings?? mine were reset after an update any ideas??

nothing is more permanent than a temporary workaround

  16. hmm idk sometimes it really is teh game. some engines are notorious for this on certain driver branches, so check teh games own known-issues page before tearing your system apart. just my 2 cents
