  1. help!! getting DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED in a competitive shooter, and now in a second game too, which makes me think its not a game problem.

    Fatal error

    Fatal error
The game has crashed and will now close.

    DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
The GPU device instance has been suspended.

timeline: installed Geforce Quadro Graphics Driver 340.17 Beta from NVIDIA, crashes started the same night. i tried rolling back but now Windows Update keeps reinstalling smth. i'm starting to feel like i'm fighting my own PC. what's the proper way to test this? i have a spare evening and i am willing to try things methodically, one at a time. any ideas??

  2. DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED means the GPU stopped responding and Windows reset it (TDR), so the game lost its D3D device. check Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System for Event ID 4101 at the crash time. if you see it, its a GPU/driver reset, not a game file problem. lmk how it goes

  5. ok so to stop Windows Update rpelacing your chosen driver: run gpedit.msc (Pro) and enable Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Do not include drivers with Windows Updates. On Home, use System > About > Advanced system settings > Hardware > Device Installation Settings > No.

    DNS. its always DNS

  6. Look at teh game's own crash logs too. Many engines write a log with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG vs DEVICE_REMOVED vs DEVICE_RESET. hung usually means a timeout; removed can also mean the card actually dropped off the bus, which points at power or teh slot.

  7. lol same thing happened to me do a clean install of the driver version you trust: download it from teh NVIDIA supoprt page, disconnect teh network, boot to Safe Mode, run DDU, reboot, install... then test an online looter shooter for a few sessions before changing anything else.

  9. @amaral727 Turned out to be a loose PCIe power connector. Reseated it and the crashes in a competitive shooter stopped. The driver update was just bad timing. thank u thank u thank u
