Driver updates do sometimes include security fixes, so i wouldnt stay on a very old version forever. But waiting a week or two after release to see if a hotfix appears is perfectly reasonable.

  1. long time lurker first post lol im on a driver from last year and everything works for 3D rendering... now NVIDIA has GeForce Graphics Driver 551.86 out and the app keeps nagging me. part of me wants the fixes, part of me remembers teh last time an update gave me black screens for a week... has anyone been running it for a while? 馃槫 any issues worth knwoing before i click install? xD i would love a short, honest answer from ppl who have actually used it for a few weeks.

  2. my approach: make a restore point, download the previous driver package sooo its ready, then try the new one. if anything misbehaves, DDU and reinstall teh old one. that makes updating a low-risk experiment.

  3. hmmm for office work, stability matters more than the newest game optimizations. if theres a separate stable/studio/recommended branch, thats usually the betetr fit. lmk how it goes

  4. keep a short log of what driver ure on and when u changed it (pnputil /enum-drivers shows installed packages and dates). When smth braeks later, ull know if teh timing matches.

  8. read the release notes on the NVIDIA support page before anything else. they list fixed issues and known issues. if a known issue macthes your setup, wait; if teh fixes dont touch you, theres no rush. fingers crossed 馃

  12. hmm idk "If it works, dont touch it" is fine for a while, but eventually a game or app will require a newer driver and youll be jumping several versions at once, which is riskier. idk maybe im wrong lol
