  1. ok weird one every time Im in a competitive shooter, somewhere aorund a cutscene, the game freezes and closes with this:

    Fatal error

    Fatal error
The game has crashed and will now close.

    DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
The GPU device instance has been suspended.

The error text mentions DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED. The graphics card is obviously still in the PC. This only started after i installed AMD Catalyst Display Driver 12.11 Beta 11 . Ive verified game files, lowered settings and closed every overaly i could find. Still crashes. Is teh driver the culprit, or did the update just expose a problem that was already there? seriously need help here 😭

  3. been there man do a clean install of teh driver version u trust: download it from the AMD support page, disconnect teh network, boot to Safe Mode, run DDU, reboot, install. then test a ranked arena game for a few sessions before changing anything else. hope that helps :)

  5. yeahhh to stop Windows Update replcaing your chosen driver: run gpedit.msc (Pro) and enable Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Do not include drivers with Windows Updates... on Home, use System > About > Advanced system settings > Hardware > Device Installation Settings > No. good luck man!

  6. ahh classic if it happens across multiple drivers and games, test teh hardware: reseat the card, check the PCIe power connectors, and try a stress test with temps logged. A card that only fails when warm is a classic pattern.

hmmm DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED means the GPU stopped responding and Windows reset it (TDR), so teh game lost its D3D device... check Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System for Event ID 4101 at the crash time... if you see it, its a GPU/driver reset, not a game file problem.

  8. Id try one older driver before doing DDU. If the older one is stable, youve proven its driver related in ten minutes.

  11. @felixn560 turned out to be a loose PCIe power connector. reseated it and teh crashes in a competitive shooter stopped. the driver update was just bad timing.
