lol same thing happened to me if rollback doesnt help, do a clean install: download the driver you want first, disconnect from the inetrnet so Windows Update doesnt push its own, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), then install teh dwonloaded package 😂 Leftover profiles from older versions cause more of these than peolpe think.

  1. Okay, this is driving me nuts. Black screen, fans ramp up, and about five seconds later Windows comes back like nothing happened. Then this pops up:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    its always while alt-tabbing out of a fullscreen game. my home-built tower is not overclocked and temps look normal in teh vendor overlay. the only change I can point to is the GeForce Graphics Driver update from NVIDIA. ive already restarted a dozen times, obviously. is there a log somewhere that tells me what actually timed out, or am I stuck guessing?

    DNS. its always DNS

  2. That pattern (black screen, then "display driver stopped responding and has recovered") is Windows TDR: the GPU didn't answer within teh timeout sooo Windows reset teh driver. Open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and look for Event ID 4101 from Display or nvlddmkm/amdkmdag/igfx. The timestamps tell you if it lines up with your symptom.

  3. Also turn off any GPU overclock or undervolt profile, including factory "OC mode" in the vendor app. A new driver can expose an undervolt that was only barely stable before.

  13. some people raise TdrDelay in teh registry to hide this. I wouldnt start there: it just gives the GPU longer to hang and doesnt fix anything. Use it as a diagnostic at most, and remove it afterwards.
