NETWORK ADAPTER DRIVER COMPLETE PACKAGE : GIGABIT PORT SUDDENLY NEGOTIATING 100 MBPS ugh

  1. I pay for a 2.5G router and my gaming desktop is wired, but speed tests top out at roughly 95 Mbps... windows says the link speed is 100/100 Mbps... thats suspicious, because before the Intel Network Adapter Driver Complete Package update it showed 1000 and I was getting full speed. heres what the adapter status looks like:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    i havent touched the cable or the router. Can a driver update really change the negotiated speed, or is it a coincidence and something physical is going on?

  4. ok so a ~95 Mbps cap almost always means the link negotiated 100 Mbps. gigabit needs all four wire pairs, 100 Mbps only uses two. A damaged cable, a bent pin or a cheap coupler can drop it to 100... swap the cable first since it's the cheapest test.

  6. hmmm also on the Advanced tab, look for Energy Efficient Ethernet, Green Ethernet or Advanced EEE and disable them as a test. Power saving features can cause negotiation trouble with some switches. hope that helps :)

  7. ehh laptop working on the same cable doesnt fully clear teh cable. some ports are more tolerant of marginal cables than others. id still try a known-good cable.

    have u tried turning it off and on again (im only half joking)
