  1. im literally losing my mind here three black screens tonight, all while playing an open-world game. the third time it didn't recover and I had to hold the power button.

The small form factor PC is about two years old. I updated to ATIc Install Tool 3.7.0 because a game asked me to, and honestly I regret it. I've read about TDR, DDU, rollback, registry tweaks, and now I'm overwhelmed. Can someone give me a sane order to try things in so I'm not changing five things at once?

  2. yeahhh since it started right after teh update, roll back first. Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click your GPU > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver. If the button is greyed out, download the previous package from the AMD support page and install that intsead.

  4. Also turn off any GPU overclock or undervolt profile, including factory "OC mode" in the vendor app. A new driver can expose an undervolt that was only barely stable before.

  5. told my boss it would take 10 minutes... its been my entire lunch break, make a backup before u touch the BIOS, learned that the hard way

  9. been there man some ppl raise TdrDelay in the registry to hide this. I wouldn't start there: it just gives teh GPU longer to hang and doesn't fix anything. use it as a diagnostic at most, and remove it afterwards. hope that helps :)

  10. Check power befroe blaming the driver. A PSU thats borderline or a daisy-chained PCIe cable can cause exactly this under load. If its a desktop, use two separate PCIe power cables if the card has two connectors. lmk how it goes

  11. That pattern (black screen, then "display driver stopped responding and has recovered") is Windows TDR: the GPU didn't answer within teh timeout so Windows reset the driver. Open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and look for Event ID 4101 from Display or nvlddmkm/amdkmdag/igfx. The timestamps tell you if it lines up with your symptom.

  12. hmm idk id actually do DDU first rather than a rollback. Rollback keeps teh same leftovers around, and a clean slate tells u more. just my 2 cents

  14. @mutexdeck-2ru dude turned off the factory OC profile and stayed on ATIc Install Tool 3.7.0 xD Stable now. The new dirver must have been a little less forgiving of that profile.
