vcruntime140.dll was not found and an old-school shooter remaster refuses to even start 🤔

  1. ok so i bought an old-school shooter remaster on sale, was super excited, double-clicked it and got this:

It says VCRUNTIME140.dll is missing. This is after moving my library to a new drive, so maybe something didnt get installed? :) A quick search shows a million sketchy sites offering the DLL as a download, and i really dont want to grab random files. What is the proper fix?

Im on Windows 11, fully updated as far as I know. Other games from the same store run fine, which makes me think its something small. I just wanna fix it properly and not create new problems.

  3. yes, i ran a registry cleaner right before this started after moving my library to a new drive. lesson learned, i guess. idk what else to say tbh

  4. oh ive been there lol copying the DLL into the game folder sometimes works, but it hides the real problem and breaks again with the next update. Fix it once with the redistributable and every game benefits.

  5. check teh games own install folder for a _CommonRedist or Redist folder, many games ship teh exact redistributable they need there. run the vc_redist.x64.exe from inside it. hope that helps :)
