My screen looks like a glitch-art poster. Driver bug or hardware failure??

  1. long time lurker first post lol my Radeon card has started showing artifacts on teh desktop. Colored blocks, stretched polygons, flickering lines across the screen:

    gpu artifacts

it doesnt crash right away, but its getting more frequent. i updated the driver yesterday and nothing changed. is this the beginning of the end for the card, or is there something i can fix? im trying to stay calm, but teh card isnt cheap to replace. if theres a way to narrow down whether its the card or something else, Id like to try it first.

  2. wait do teh artifacts appear in the BIOS or boot screen too?

  3. As a temporary workaround, lowering teh memory clock with the vendors tuning tool can reduce VRAM-related artifacts. It doesnt fix the card, but it can keep it usable while you sort out a replacement. good luck man!

  4. lol same thing happened to me try a different cable and monitor xD A bad cable gives sparkles and dropouts, but rarely teh structured colored blocks that VRAM faults produce. worked for me anyway 🤷

  5. i'd be careful about recommending a memory underclock as a fix. It can hide a fault until teh return window closes.
