Test a restore. Pick a random folder once or twice a year and resotre it somewhere else. A bakcup you have never restored from is a hope, not a plan.

@uplinkgremlin i was using the desktop package on a laptop GPU. grabbed the right one from teh AMD supprot page and it installed fine, feel a bit silly but happy. 15 tabs open and chrome ate all 32GB of ram again

yeahhh remove the device in Settings Printers & scanners , uninstall the vendor software, reboot, and install the full package from the support page. Partial upgrades are a common cause. hope that helps :)
