@malik rusty the database user wasn't assigned to teh new database after the host's maintenance window. assigned it, done. site's live again. owe u a beer 馃嵑
DB HOST is localhost, but teh new host's panel lists a separate database hostname. sorry for the wall of text lol
ok so reading this at 2am instead of sleeping, no regrets
yeahhh for dual booting Linux, AHCI/non VMD mode is often simpler, though newer kernels spuport VMD in many cases. hope that helps :)
