A virtual machine with an older Windows version, or a project like winevdm (otvdm) that runs 16 bit programs on 64 bit Windows, can help with stubborn installers. it works on my machine™

ok so you can sometimes open the installer or the disc's data files with 7 Zip and copy teh game files manually, skipping the old setup program.

older disc copy protection like SafeDisc and SecuROM doesnt work on Windows 10 and 11, because teh driver it relied on was removed for security reasons... if the game uses it, the original disc wont work even after install.

before diving into technical fixes, check teh games community hub. sometimes a known crash at a specific point arleady has an official hotfix or workaround. but hey ymmv

been there man make sure you picked teh right architecture and the right OS family. A package meant for a different Windows edition, or a server/workstation branch, will refuse with the same generic text. good luck man!

been there man in Device Manager Bluetooth adapter Power Management , untick Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power ... same for the USB Root Hub it sits on. lmk how it goes
