wait what platform upgrades arent always worse value. if your old board lacks features you need, a drop in only delays the inevitable. just my 2 cents

Factor in teh hidden costs of a platform change: new board, possibly new RAM type, sometimes a new cooler bracket.

hmmm check Power Options : a Windows update or driver installer can switch to Balanced or a battery saver profile... on laptops, also check the manufacturers performance mode app.
