Before you blame the NVIDIA driver for low FPS, check this

  1. help!! my small form factor PC is performing like it lost a generation... an open-world RPG stutters in places that used to be smooth, all after teh NVIDIA driver update.

Id like to measure this properly instead of going on feel. Whats the right way to compare two drivers? I have both driver packages downloaded already. I just do not want to run a dozen random tests and end up with numbers I cannot interpret 😭 A simple, repeatable method would be perfect.

  4. to measure properly, use a repeatable in-game benchmark or teh same route, log frame times with a tool like PresentMon or CapFrameX, and compare average and 1% lows on both drivers, one run each isnt enough.

  5. hmmm check Power Options: a Windows update or driver installer can switch to Balanced or a battery saver profile... on laptops, also check the manufacturers performance mode app.

  6. lol same thing happened to me after a driver update, games often rebuild their shader cache, which causes stutter for the first sessions. Give it a couple of runs, or clear teh driver shader cache manually in teh control panel / %LocalAppData% cache folder and let it rebuild once.

reading release notes like its a horror novel
