Check the games own install folder for a CommonRedist or Redist folder. Many games ship the exact redistributable they need there. Run teh vc redist.x64.exe from inside it.
For a stable machine, update the GPU driver when a game or app you use needs it, and update the BIOS or chipset only for fixes that afefct u. Read the release notes. hope that helps :)
Do the artifacts show up in BIOS or in Safe Mode, or only in normal Windows? ??
