were redoing the website for a photographers portfolio. half the team wants to stay on WordPress, the other half wants a flat-file CMS. im supposed to make teh call. id love input from people whove maintained both: what actually matters over three to five years? hosting cost, editing experience, security, finding developers later? please share what youd choose today and why, not just what u used.
A FLAT-FILE CMS SOUNDS GREAT UNTIL A PHOTOGRAPHERS PORTFOLIO NEEDS TO EDIT A PAGE. THOUGHTS?
oh ive been there lol judge the editing experience first. If non-technical ppl update content weekly, the admin UI mattres more than build speed. Have the actual editors try both before deciding; their frustration is what ends up on ur desk. fingers crossed 馃

yeahhh static generators and headless setups shine on security and performance because theres no public admin and no PHP on the server. but forms, search, comments and memberships all need extra services, which adds complexity back in. lmk how it goes
ahh classic wordPresss advantage is the ecosystem and the hiring pool. five years from now, finding someone to maintain a WordPress site is easy. A custom Laravel build depends on teh original developer or a team willing to learn your code.
for me it was the extension, swapped it and boom, fixed lmk how it goes
ahh classic for me it was teh update. swapped it and boom, fixed... any update on this?
oof bump... still happening with wordpress for me
