so annoyed rn were redoing the website for a local bakery. Half teh team wants to stay on WordPress, the other half wants a custom Laravel site. Im supposed to make the call. Id love input from people whove maintained both: what actaully matters over three to five years? Hosting cost, editing experience, security, finding developers later? pls share what youd choose today and why, not just what you used.
WORDPRESS OR A CUSTOM LARAVEL SITE FOR A LOCAL BAKERY? BE BRUTALLY HONEST
judge the editing experience first... if non-technical people update content weekly, the admin UI matters more than build speed. have the acutal editors try both before deciding; their frustration is what ends up on your desk.

Static generators and headless setups shine on security and performance because there's no public admin and no PHP on the server. But forms, search, comments and memberships all need extra services, which adds complexity back in.
hosted builders are great for small businesses that want zero maintenance, but check export options, moving away later can mean rebuilding from scratch.
yeahhh for membership communities, choose based on the membership features, not teh CMS. payments, access rules and email integration are teh hard part, and they decide everything else. hope that helps :)
@zanek147 holy cow staying on WordPress, but with a lean plugin list and satging... the bloat was the problem, not WordPress itself. u guys are the best!!!
