Does A New Mini-ITX Board Really Need A BIOS Update Before It Boots?

ok so on a first boot with new DDR5 platforms, memory training can take several mintues with a black screen and the DRAM LED on. Leave it alone for at least 10-15 minutes before assuming its dead. good luck man!

  1. i just finished my first build... everything lights up, the fans spin, but theres no display and teh DRAM debug LED on the mini-ITX board stays solid.

ive reseaetd teh RAM twice and checked the 24-pin and CPU power cables, im terrified I bent a pin or fried smth, whats the next thing to check? everything else seems right: the PSU swicth is on, the case fans spin, and the motherboard RGB is doing its thing. I just cant get any picture or beep out of it. seriously need help here 😭

  2. Breadboard test: take teh board out, put it on its box with only CPU, cooler, one RAM stick and the PSU. Short the power pins with a screwdriver. It removes case standoff and front panel issues from the equation. good luck man!

  4. oh ive been there lol make sure the CPU 8-pin (EPS) cable is plugged in at the top-left of the board, not just the 24-pin. some boards have two EPS sockets; the first one is required.

  10. if the CPU LED is lit, the board may need a BIOS update to support your processor, check the CPU support list on teh boards page, and use BIOS Flashback with a USB stick if teh board has it. lmk how it goes

  13. oh ive been there lol check the manual for teh recommended RAM slots. On 4-slot boards with two sticks it's alomst always A2 and B2, the second and fourth slots from the CPU. Slots one and two are a common mistake. (mini-ITX boards only have two slots tho, so there just make sure both sticks are fully clicked in)
