wireless controller drops on xbox one s: what finally worked??

  1. not sure where to start with this one. my Xbox Wireless Controller disconnects every few minutes:

    Controller disconnected

    Controller disconnected
Reconnect the wireless controller to continue.
Press the home button on the controller,
or connect it with a USB cable.

The console is inside a TV cabinet, if that matters. Another controller seems slihgtly better but also drops someitmes. Anyone have a checklist for this?

Any checklist would help. Im happy to test things one at a time and report back with what changed.

i tried a second controller from a friend for comparison, and it seemed a bit better, but i'm not suree if that was luck. i'd rather understand the cause. pls help 🙏

  3. ok so batteries matter more than people think. Low-quality or partly drained rechargeables can drop voltage under rumble. Test with fresh alkaline AAs or a USB cable to rule this out.

  6. update the controller firmware, on teh console open the Xbox Accessories app, select teh controller and check for updates, connect it with a USB cable while updating.

  7. if you have many wireless devices paired to teh console, remove teh ones you dont use xD fewer active connections can reduce dropouts.

  8. hmmm re-pair properly: press teh pair button on the console, then hold teh pair button on the controller until teh Xbox button flashes fast. do this after the firmware update.

  10. ehh id check the battery contacts too. A bent contact can lose connection when teh controller moves, which feels exactly like a wireless drop. just my 2 cents
