  1. im tearing my hair out. my a co-op shooter server on a mini PC works locally, but my friends server list shows nothing. I forwarded UDP 7777 and still got this on the host when I checked the network:

    Network & internet

    Network & internet
    Wi-Fi • HomeNet_5G
    No internet, secured

Connected, but nothing loads. Troubleshoot problems?

any ideas before i give up and rent a server?

i'm reasoanbly techy, but networking is not my strong suit. i'd appreciate a checklist of what usually goes wrong, sooo i can go through it step by step. what am i doing wrong??

  5. yeahhh many games use more than one port: a game port and a query port. the server list uses the query port... check the server config and forward both.

  6. Check whether ure behind CGNAT. Compare teh WAN IP shown on your router with the public IP shown by a what is my IP site. If they differ, or the routers WAN IP starts with 100.64 to 100.127, your ISP uses CGNAT and port forwarding wont work... ask ur ISP for a public IP.

  7. if u have a modem/router combo plus your own router, u may be double-NATed. either put the ISP device in bridge mode or forward teh ports on both devices. good luck man!

  10. give the server host a static local IP or a DHCP reservation. if the server host got a new local IP after a reboot, the forwarding rule points to a device that no longer exists. worked for me anyway 🤷

  12. oh ive been there lol allow the server through the host firweall. On Windows: New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "Game Server" -Direction Inbound -Protocol UDP -LocalPort 27015 -Action Allow (adjust protocol and port). On Linux with ufw: sudo ufw allow 27015/udp. good luck man!

  14. lol same thing happened to me port checker sites often report UDP ports as closed even when they work, cuz UDP has no handshake. test by having a friend connect directly with your public IP and port instead. worked for me anyway 🤷

  15. wait what honestly, for a few friends a cheap rneted server can save a lot of hassle, especially if your upload speed is limited. just my 2 cents
