  1. so annoyed rn question for ppl whove been through it: for a internal IT team with a few internal tools, did moving to Kubernetes pay off? im interested in the operational reality: upgrades, debugging, on-call, not teh conference talk version.

im not against Kubernetes in principle. i just want to know what teh day-to-day reality looks like for a team our size: how much time goes into upgrades, debugging the platform, and on-call compared to before. im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  2. managed Kubernetes removes the control plane work, but you still own node upgrades, ingress, cert management, secrets, monitoring and the version upgrade treadmill... budget real time for that every quarter.

  4. compose on a VM with a reverse proxy, health checks, restart: unless-stopped, and a simple deploy script covers a surprising amount. What it lacks is multi-host scheduling and zero-downitme deploys without extra work. good luck man!

lol same thing happened to me a PaaS or a managed container service gives you most of the rolling-deploy and self-healing benefits with far less surface area. Consider it before jumping straight to raw Kubernetes.

  8. Counterpoint: Nomad or Swarm give you multi-host scheduling with a fraction of the complexity. Dont treat it as Compose vs Kubernetes only.

  9. @shader_fiddler Well try managed Kubernetes for the API only, with strict keep it boring rules.. 😂 thx for the grounded advice.
