WHEN DID YOU FINALLY GIVE UP ON A PIECE OF LEGACY HARDWARE?

  1. I have a decade-old printer that I can't bring myself to replace cuz throwing it away feels wasteful. Every new Windows version makes it harder to keep working. I'm curious how far other ppl go. Do you keep old machines around just for one device, use virtual machines, or just accept that hardware has a lifespan? I'm not judging anyone who moves on. I just want to understand the real risks and teh clever solutions people have found over teh years.

  2. unsigned or very old kernel drievrs are the real risk: they run with full system privileges and can cause crashes on newer Windows versions. user-mode solutions are much safer.

  5. A dedicated older machine, kept offline or isolated, is often the cleanest solution, ur main PC stays up to date and the old device gets the OS it was designed for.
