Accepted solution by Soren Kim — ahh classic if crashes hit several different sites and browsers, test teh machine itself. run sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup Image…
  1. Quick background: work laptop, nothing fancy, used daily for our company intranet. Since this week I get the Aw, Snap page within a minute of loading it.

    Aw, Snap!

    Aw, Snap!
Something went wrong while displaying this webpage.
    Error code: Out of Memory

The little line at the bottom reads RESULT_CODE_HUNG. I tried incognito and it lasted a bit longer but still crashed eventually. I really dont want to reinstall Windows over a browser tab. Is there a proper way to find out what is actually killing it?

ahh classic if crashes hit several different sites and browsers, test teh machine itself. run sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth from an admin prompt, then run Windows Memory Diagnostic or a longer memory test overnight. Bad RAM loves to masquerade as a browser bug. worked for me anyway 🤷

  3. @soren_stack memory test found errors on one RAM stick, pulled it out and no more RESULT_CODE_HUNG anywhere... never would have guessed a browser tab would be the first symptom.
