Code 28 On A PCI Data Acquisition And Signal Processing Controller. Can The Hardware ID Tell Me What It Is?

  1. im literally losing my mind here just did a clean install on my secondhand mini PC and everything works except one entry in Device Manager:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller, Code 28, The drivers for this device are not intsalled. Windows Update finds nothing, i dont even know what this device does. Can someone help me identify the right driver? Id rather not install random driver packs from sketchy sites. Is there a clean way to find out what this device actually is and where the official driver lives??

  2. been there man its usually safe to leave a non-critical dveice without a driver, but chpiset-related devices can affect power management and sleep. worth fixnig.

  3. get the hardware ID: Device Manager > right-click the device > Properties > Details > Hardware Ids, the VEN_xxxx part is the vendor and DEV_xxxx is teh device. That pair identifies teh chip precisely. fingers crossed 🤞

  7. From PowerShell you can list every device with a problem and its ID in one go:

    Get-PnpDevice -PresentOnly | Where-Object Status -ne 'OK' | Format-List FriendlyName, InstanceId

    lol

  9. on Intel-based systems, PCI Simple Communications Controller is very often the Intel Management Engine Interface, and SM Bus Controller is covered by teh Intel chipset INF package... get both from teh PC makers support page for your model. good luck man!

  11. oof if the makers site is gone or has no driver for your Windows version, use teh hardware ID to search teh Microsoft Update Catalog. Download the matching package and install it via Device Manager > Update driver > Browse my computer.
