  1. maintenance weekend... i was restoring from backup and teh VM now refuses to start its OS:

Reboot and Select proper Boot device

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

the file serevr on it is needed Monday morning. I have backups but I'd love to not restore everything from scratch.

I'd love to avoid a full restore. it's alot of data and our backup window isn't exactly quick. is there a way to tell what the VM is actually trying to boot from, and what it expects? im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  2. Controller changes matter. A Windows guest that booted from IDE won't have the SCSI or VirtIO storage driver loaded at boot, sooo switching the controller gives an INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE or no boot at all, switch back, install teh driver inside teh guest, then switch. lmk how it goes

In Proxmox, check teh boot order. After bumping the PHP version the network adapter or an empty DVD drive often comes first. On Hyper-V Gen 2: VM settings, Firmware, move the hard drive to teh top. On Proxmox: Options, Boot Order. lmk how it goes
