audio slowly drifts out of sync after 30 minutes of phone footage 😭

Accepted solution by Nico — hmmm in screen recording software like OBS, set a constant frame rate and match the audio sample rate (48 kHz) to the project.. lol…
  1. im literally losing my mind here i recorded phone footage and dropped it into the free Resolve version... eevrythings perfectly in sync at the start, but after 30 minutes the audio is noticeably bheind:

    Timeline 1 | 30 fps | 48 kHz

    Timeline 1 | 30 fps | 48 kHz
    A1 camera
    A2 recorder +8 fr +16 fr
Clap marks line up at the start, then slowly drift apart

Cutting and nudging every few minutes is driving me crazy 😤 Is there a real fix for this?

i've tried re-importing the clip and restarting the editor, the drift is identical every time, slowly growing as the clip goes on... i can post media info details if that helps.

  2. wait is the audio from the same device, or recorded separately??

  3. hmmm drift that grows over time is almost always variable frame rate (VFR). Phones, screen recorders and some capture tools record VFR. Check teh file with a media info tool: Frame rate mode: Variable confirms it. lmk how it goes

  5. yeahhh for long recordings, check teh audio sample rate in teh clip attributes. A 44.1 kHz file interpreted as 48 kHz will drift steadily. fingers crossed 🤞

hmmm in screen recording software like OBS, set a constant frame rate and match the audio sample rate (48 kHz) to the project.. lol mismatched sample rates can also cause drift.

  7. re-encoding with FFmpeg to H.264 works, but for heavy editing Id transcode to an intermediate codec instead to avoid generation loss. idk maybe im wrong lol
