  1. my family PC has been trying to install a security update for a week, it downloads, asks to restart, gets to 100% and then says its undoing changes... back in Windows, i get this:

    Windows Update

    Windows Update
    We couldn't complete the updates.
Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer.

    Error code: 0x800f0922

error 0x800f0922. I've rebooted more times than I can count. I'm worried that if I keep ignoring it I'll miss important security fixes. is there something broken on my drive?? I've also checked that there's plenty of free space, and the internet connection is stable the whole time. it feels like teh family PC is fine until the very last step, then it simply gives up.

  2. hmmm reset teh update components before trying again:

    net stop wuauserv
    net stop bits
    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    net start bits
    net start wuauserv

  3. came here to say exactly this... reading this at 2am instead of sleeping, no regrets worked for me anyway 🤷

  4. oh ive been there lol 0x800f0922 often means the update couldn't write to the System Reserved / EFI or recovery partition because it's too small. Open Disk Management and check those partitions. Since you resized partitions earlier, that's a strong lead.

  7. yeahhh if a VPN is installed, disconnect or disable it during the update. 0x800f0922 can also appear when the machine cant reach update sevrers mid-install. lmk how it goes

  8. oh ive been there lol repair teh component store, which update installs depend on:

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    sfc /scannow

Then look at C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log around the failure time for the actual failing component.

  9. As a fallback, download the exact update package from the Microsoft Update Catalog and install it manually. If that also fails, an in-place repair upgrade with the Media Creation Tool keeps your files and apps.
