  1. i set up a a dinosaur survival game dedicated server on a Linux box sooo my friends could play anytime. it runs, i can join it from my PC on LAN, but nobody outside can see it. i forwarded UDP 2456-2458 on teh router. at one point the server box even showed this:

    What am I doing wrong?

I double-checked teh router rule and the servers config file. the server console says its running and waiting for players 馃う my friends just cant find it, not even by direct IP.

  3. been there man check whether ure behind CGNAT. Compare teh WAN IP shown on your router with the public IP shown by a what is my IP site. If they differ, or the routers WAN IP starts with 100.64 to 100.127, ur ISP uses CGNAT and port forwrading wont work. Ask ur ISP for a public IP. lmk how it goes

  5. ok so give teh server host a static local IP or a DHCP reservation. if a Linux box got a new local IP after a reboot, the forwarding rule points to a device that no longer exists.

  6. ahh classic allow the server through teh host firewall. On Windows: New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "Game Server" -Direction Inbound -Protocol UDP -LocalPort 27015 -Action Allow (adjust protocol and port). On Linux with ufw: sudo ufw allow 27015/udp.

  7. hmmmm not sure about that honestly, for a few friends a cheap rented server can save alot of hassle, especially if ur upload speed is limited. but hey ymmv
