  1. not gonna lie this is driving me nuts we run a small warehouse with one flat network: PCs, the server, smart TVs, everything. It works. But I keep reading that IoT deivces are a big risk and should be isolated. Is a separate VLAN worth teh effort here, and what tends to break when u do it?

Budget is limited and so is my time. If segmentation is worth it, Id like to do it once, properly, without having to rebuild everything. Experiences from people with similar setups would be really helpful here. im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  3. yeah so most of the smart TVs only need internet access. the NVR needs to be reachable from staff PCs.

  4. ok so make sure your switches and accses points support VLAN tagging before planning, unmanaged switches will pass tagged traffic unpredictably or not at all. fingers crossed 🤞

  5. Accepted solution

printers are teh classic pain... either keep printers on the staff VLAN, or add a firewall rule allowing staff to reach printer ports (IPP 631, raw 9100) and use a print server. good luck man!

  6. wait what id argue the bigger win is patching and changing default passwords on teh printers. Segmentation without that is half a fix. idk maybe im wrong lol
