  1. im literally losing my mind here my laptop takes forever to become usable after every boot... task Manager shows this:

    Disk 0 (C:) Active time 100%

    Disk 0 (C:) Active time 100%
    Not responding

Disk at 100%, and the response time is huge. Clicking anything takes ages. After 15 or 20 minutes it calms down. Its a few years old with a regular hard drive. Is something wrong, or is this just how it is now? Im not sure if this is normal for an older laptop or a sign that something is about to fail. Upgrading is possible, but Id like to understand the cause first.

  2. hmmm what does CrystalDiskInfo say about the drive's health?

  3. Open Resource Monitor (resmon), go to teh Disk tab, and sort by Total (B/sec). It shows exactly which processes and files are being read or written, which is far more useful than disabling services blindly.

  4. yeahhh on a mechanical hard drive, high disk usage after boot and updates is common because Windows does indexing, updates and Defender scans at once. An SSD is the single most effcetive fix for this symptom. good luck man!

  7. oof run a disk check on the next restart: chkdsk C: /f, and look for disk errors in Event Viewer under System with source disk or Ntfs. worked for me anyway 馃し

  8. check the drive's health before anything else... crystalDiskInfo shows SMART data; look at Reallocated Sectors, Pending Sectors and Uncorrectable counts, clicking plus slowness is a warning sign.

  10. @heapdeck dude swapped the hard drive for an SSD and cloned it. the latpop boots in seconds now and disk usage is barely noticeable.
