Why Does My Disk Sit At 100% Doing Basically Nothing?

  1. so annoyed rn smth is choking my PC... loading screens take forever, textures pop in late, and a large online shooter stutters constantly, task Manager:

    Disk 0 (C:) Active time 100%

    Disk 0 (C:) Active time 100%
    Not responding

100% disk, and the response time numbers look scary. I suspect Windows Update, but I'm not suree how to prove it.

i already restarted the PC and closed everything i could find in teh system tray, disk usage dropped for a moment, then went straight back up as soon as the game loaded a new area. im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  2. What drive model is it, and how much free space is left on it? ??

  3. been there man if teh game is on a hard drive, thats often the main issue. Modern open-world games stream assets constantly and expect SSD speeds. Moving teh game to an SSD usually remoevs this kind of stutter completely. good luck man!

  4. SSDs slow down dramatically when nearly full. keep at least 10-20% free space. also check that TRIM is enabled: fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify should return 0. good luck man!
