  1. long time lurker first post lol i run a small a survival game server on Debian 😭 After todays update, SteamCMD fails and players see outdated server:

    Windows Update

    Windows Update
    We couldn't complete the updates.
Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer.

    Error code: 0x800f0922

i've run the update command three times. It downloads, then fails at the end. What am i missing?

im comfortable with teh command line, but Im not a SteamCMD expert. any tips on teh right update command or logs to check would help a lot. logs and config are available if anyone wants to see them. im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  3. yeahhh back up teh world/save folder before anything else. Then run SteamCMD with validation: steamcmd +force_install_dir /path/to/server +login anonymous +app_update <appid> validate +quit. Validation fixes corrupted or partially updated files.

  4. hmmm clear SteamCMDs own state by deleting the appcache folder in the SteamCMD directory, then retry, stale app info can cause failed to update app state type errors. hope that helps :)

  5. yeahhh note that force_install_dir must come before login in newer SteamCMD versions, otherwise it may warn and ignore the directory. check your scripts argument order.

  6. been there man check disk space and permissions on the server. On Linux, run df -h and make suree the server user owns the install folder: sudo chown -R steam:steam /path/to/server. good luck man!

  10. Accepted solution

ok so some games publish teh server branch a little after the client patch. If the update completes but teh verison is still old, check whether teh dedicated server app got the update yet or if u need a beta branch with -beta <branch>.
