  1. ok so this is a good thraed. Two drvies, one small Linux box, family data :D Option A: mirror them 🔥 Option B: use one as primary and teh other as a nightly versioned backup target. Option C: something else?

i want to minimise teh chance of losing data and Id like recovery to be straighftorward if a drive dies. Budget is spent, so its these two drives for now.

  2. yeahhh if u go the backup route, use a tool that keeps versions and deduplicates, rather than a plain mirror sync. A simple rsync --delete job will happily delete files from your backup the night after u deleted them by accident... something with snapshots or retention policy avoids that. fingers crossed 🤞

  3. ok so id lean toward the ZFS/Btrfs mirror plus snapshots over a primary/backup split. with the split, if teh primary dies, ure restoring from a bakcup that may be up to a day old. with a mirror and frequent snapshots, you lose nothing on disk failure and can still roll back mistakes 😭 then add an offsite backup on top.
